Technical Division
Barnstable County Sheriff's Office
The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office Technical Division is responsible for the support and maintenance of the radio systems for Cape Cod's emergency communications, including the BCSO Emergency Communications Center on Joint Base Cape Cod. The BCSO Tech Shop is also responsible for the maintenance and operations of S39, and our mobile emergency communications vehicle.
S39 is a self-contained, high-tech center on wheels that provides the latest in communications equipment necessary to respond to an emergency situation. It can be deployed in less than an hour. S39 is also utilized for large community events to provide an extra level of security for first responder communications in the event of a sudden emergency (i.e., the Falmouth Road Race.)
The Technical Division handles all facets of Cape Cod's emergency communication network including design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of radio systems for local police, fire, and emergency medical services, including installation of mobile radios in police cruisers, ambulances, and other specialty emergency vehicles, as well as the countywide EMS radio system. Staffed by a highly trained group of radio technicians, the division is responsible for the installation and repair of more than 60 EMS rescue support vehicles and over 3,000 mobile and portable radios, their base stations, consoles, and supporting tower infrastructures.
