Sheriff, 4Cs Cox announce correction officer program

Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings announces a new training certificate program his office is undertaking in partnership with Cape Cod Community College. That's the college's president, John Cox (right), and criminal justice professor John Szucs (left). Szucs ran the Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Barnstable Village until his retirement nine months ago, when he assumed his teaching post at 4Cs. [keep scrolling down]

The Sheriff (back to) shows President Cox what a typical cell looks like during a brief tour of the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne. The announcement followed the tour. That's the Sheriff's number two, Special Sheriff Jeff Perry, and President Cox's number two, Susan Miller, VP for academic and student affairs, standing by. The 22-credit certificate course, kicking off this fall, will prepare students for entry level positions in the correctional field. It is designed for completion within a three-semester timetable and includes cooperative work after the final semester.
