The next step in the hiring process for the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office is the physical fitness test.  It will be held in the gym at Falmouth High School.  The date is Saturday, February 25, 2012. 

Your time to report is alphabetically by last name.  (You will notice in some cases it is alphabetically by the first two letters of your last name.)

  9:00   C-E

10:00   F-J

11:00   K-Mi

12:00   Mo-Ri

  1:00   Ro-S

  2:00   T-Z

Please come prepared with PT gear-shorts, t-shirt, sweats, sneakers, water bottle, and towel. If you are on medication we ask that you bring it with you in case you encounter problems. Please arrive to the Gym 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled time.

  Corrections Officer Requirements
Once you have successfully passed both the written examination and a physical agility test, you will undergo an intensive background investigation, oral interview and medical review. Because we are committed to providing the highest quality officers, you will undergo a screening with a thorough background investigation. You must cooperate truthfully and completely in all aspects of the investigation; falsified or omitted information may cause you to be disqualified.

 
 

Physical Fitness Testing
Your physical fitness will be evaluated to ensure that you are able to perform the duties of a corrections officer. Please be aware that an offer of employment is contingent upon the passing of all phases of the process. Physical fitness testing consists of sit-ups, push-ups and a 1.5 mile run. Minimum acceptable times and amounts for completing these tests vary depending on age and gender.

Minimum Qualifications for All Positions
All candidates must:

 
 
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent, a college degree is preferred
  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Possess a valid MA Driver’s License
  • Meet physical and medical standards
  • Pass a complete background check
  • Meet the requirements necessary to obtain a pistol permit
  • Pass drug testing
 

Minimum Age Qualifications
Age at time of application:
19 years of age
