Citizens Academy

Barnstable County Sheriff's Office

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office offers a yearly Citizens Academy for those citizens interested in learning about the operations of the BCSO. The Academy provides participants with an inside view of the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, the BCSO Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) Division, the BCSO Telecommunications Division, the BCSO Civil Process Division as well as the community offerings provided by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

The classes provide students with an overview of the Office of the Sheriff and a broad perspective of all our departments including a guided tour of the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, a K-9 demonstration, Special Response Team presentation, a hands-on demonstration by BCI, an electronic monitoring presentation, and much more.

The Academy meets for two hours, one day a week for six consecutive weeks. All participants must submit a completed Citizens Academy Application and Facility Tour Release Form to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office for acceptance into the program. All participants must agree to attend each day of the scheduled Citizens Academy.

For questions about our Citizens Academy or to submit an application online email: youthprograms@bsheriff.net or call (508) 563-4356

Disclaimer: Acknowledgement of receipt of a completed Citizens Academy Application does not guarantee placement in the Citizens Academy Program. Participants are subject to a background check prior to admittance into the program. The BCSO reserves the right to limit the amount of students in each yearly Academy.
