Technical Division
The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Technical Division is responsible for the support and maintenance of the radio systems for Cape Cod’s emergency communications, including the BCSO Emergency Communications Center on Joint Base Cape Cod. The BCSO Tech Shop is also responsible for the maintenance and operations of S39, our mobile emergency communications vehicle and the maintenance for the radio system on S300, our marine unit patrol boat.
S39 is a self-contained, high-tech center on wheels that provides the latest in communications equipment necessary to respond to an emergency situation and can be deployed in less than an hour. S39 is also utilized for large community events to provide an extra level of security for first responder communications in the event of a sudden emergency (i.e. the Falmouth Road Race.)
S300, our marine unit patrol boat is utilized for search and rescue missions, emergency assistance, island transportation for inmate transfers, and to secure and protect the waters off Cape Cod in conjunction with local, state and federal agencies.
The Technical Division handles all facets of Cape Cod’s emergency communication network including design, planning, implementation and maintenance of radio systems for local police, fire and emergency medical services, including installation of mobile radios in police cruisers, ambulances and other specialty emergency vehicles, as well as the countywide EMS radio system. Staffed by a highly trained group of radio technicians, the division is responsible for the installation and repair of more than 60 EMS rescue support vehicles and over 3,000 mobile and portable radios, their base stations, consoles and supporting tower infrastructures.
